Community Fridge Information

How do I contribute to or use a community fridge?

Here is the important stuff upfront: If you need access to food or have food you can share with comrades, please visit the fridges!

See the “Omaha DSA Fridges” section below for the location of the fridges we are supporting.

Please interact with these 2 new community fridge/freezers in any way you can!

The more we prove they’re useful and well-maintained, the more locations we can open in the future!

Here’s how:

  1. Leave food!

    • If you are leaving prepared meals,

      • Do your best to follow Safe Food Handling | FDA guidelines.

      • Label and date what you leave so neighbors know what they can safely eat.

    • Do not leave expired food

  2. Take Food!

    • Take what you need; there are no limits and no shame.

  3. Spread the Word!

    • Spread the word to neighbors, family, and friends so we can build more free fridges in Omaha community centers!

What is the purpose of a community supported fridge?

Community fridges are a free, anonymous way to exchange food. Anyone can drop off food they don’t want or would otherwise throw away for someone else in the community to enjoy. They provide an easily accessible source of food, with no strings attached. Community fridges are a strong, solidarity-based way to address local food inaccessibility caused by capitalism. The Omaha DSA Mutual Aid Group has been working to partner with community organizations and individuals to install and support community fridges in the Omaha area.

We are currently testing community fridges in City of Omaha Community Centers. We are looking to deploy more fridges at homes and businesses throughout the Omaha area. Especially in a location that can be available 24/7. If you or someone you know is interested in hosting, please contact info@omahadsa.org.

Look for an update on the progress by December 2026!
