Ecosocialist Working Group 10/17/2026
As socialists, we strive to create an equitable world that protects and uplifts workers, society, and the planet we live on. Unfortunately, billions of dollars are being poured into technology that does the exact opposite. Big Tech oligarchs use data centers to train AI models on humanity’s art and knowledge, stealing our hard work and replacing our labor with soulless output. Data center companies eat up our land, water, and electricity, carving chunks out of the Earth at a time when it needs healing and care more than ever. Polluting compute farms pop up in neighborhoods without their consent, ruining the health and well-being of everyone who lives close by.
It is our job to fight back against the wave of big money interests that want to force data centers and generative AI into our jobs, minds, and communities. That’s why this year, the Omaha chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has made its priority campaign “No Data Centers in Omaha!” This priority campaign aims to raise public awareness about the dangers of data centers in order to pressure our elected leaders for data center moratoriums and transparency regarding City Council and Omaha Public Power District’s deals with AI companies.
To get involved, first join Omaha DSA and become a monthly dues-paying member. A portion of your dues will be given back to the chapter to fund our initiatives and good work. Once you’ve signed up, join the Omaha DSA mailing list to receive weekly updates about chapter events. To directly contribute to our anti-data center work, consider joining one of our working groups. Each working group meets on a regular schedule to plan events, create political education material, and organize in the community. Each person’s small contribution of time and labor brings us one step closer to our goal.
We believe that a better world is possible if we keep striving for it.
